Mission:

Waterhouse Guild

Art, Mystery, and the occasional Divine.

“In art we are once again able to do all the things we have forgotten; we are able to walk on water; we speak to the angels who call us; we move, unfettered, among the stars.”

 ~Madeline L’Engle

Art makes us both more and less human—more, in that we can commune with the self, can grow in depth and purpose and meaning; and yet, paradoxically, less, as the artist transcends the human known and strikes out into a wider eternity. The arts connect our frail, limited lives to something bigger. They allow us to soar. Art gives us wings on which to ride the currents of the unconscious.

Arts, mystery, and occasional divine—we at the Guild believe these three elements undergird a life of purpose and wonder. That’s why they lie at the heart of everything we do.

Humans—children and adults alike—possess enormous creative potential. This potential flourishes and thrives as we revel in the important work of creating.

The Guild is an umbrella that rallies the tenacity and shelters the vulnerability required to create art. As a 5013c nonprofit, Waterhouse Guild promotes the work Sans-Creance Publishing; hosts the Message in a Bottle forum; commissions works of art; and is committed to the work of creative literacy in education, partnering with teachers to nurture the next generation of artists. Between commissions, curation, and education, the Guild celebrates our human potential to reach for the stars.
