Introduction

The goal of Waterhouse Guild, at all times, is to protect and promote the complete health of students, parents, staff and visitors. This includes physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and emotional health.

Communication

Overall guidelines and responsibilities for students, parents, and staff will be communicated by:

Hard copies given to parents and staff.
Email to parents and staff.
Posting on the school’s website, waterhouseguild.com.
Group teleconferencing as needed.
On-site posters and notices as appropriate at entrances and sinks.

Facility

Consider using separate entrance and exit paths to avoid congestion at gate.
Enter from parking area.
Exit through garden area.
Classrooms will be arranged as needed to maximize social distancing while taking into account educational needs.
Hand sanitizing stations will be provided at each classroom entrance.
Use of shared materials will be eliminated wherever possible.
Common areas will be cleaned throughout the day as needed.
In addition to our current daily cleaning procedures, a detailed cleaning list (TBD) will be followed at the end of each day.
A visitor log will be kept at the door to track room use outside of Waterhouse hours.
Cones will be provided at classroom entrances to define social distancing requirements in cases where a line forms.

Staff

Staff members will be given an exposure questionnaire each morning before entering classrooms.
Staff members will have temperature taken each morning before entering classrooms. If temperature exceeds health authority guidelines, they will be sent home and be required to get tested for Covid-19 before returning to class. If tested positive, staff member will be required to follow public health guidelines before returning.
When feasible, masks will be worn.
Staff will be required to use hand sanitizer when entering or leaving classrooms.

Parents

Parents will follow all staff guidelines.
Parents will be restricted from entering classrooms unless necessary.
Parents will be restricted from congregating in classrooms or breezeway.

Students

Daily before entering class:

Students will be given an exposure questionnaire (with a parent or guardian present).
Student’s temperature will be taken with a non-contact thermometer.
Reminders will be given throughout the day regarding distancing and hand washing.
Waterhouse instruction currently takes place in small groups, this practice will continue.
Inter-mixing of groups will be minimized.
Outdoor activities will emphasize social distancing.

What Qualifies a Private School Teacher

Many private schools value degrees in related fields, work experience, knowledge, and natural teaching abilities over certification. Waterhouse is no exception.

What a private school is really looking for are teachers who can inspire students and simultaneously bring great experience to the classroom. Research has shown that good teachers are often professionals blessed with superb verbal abilities. Put another way, they know how to communicate their subject extremely well. That has little or nothing to do with Certification. Coming in right behind superb verbal abilities is the exceptional experience. A private school will value these attributes far more than teacher training or stand-alone education credits.

According to “Teacher Certification Reconsidered: Stumbling For Quality“ distributed by the Abell Foundation: “There is inconclusive evidence that certified teachers are more effective in the classroom. Teacher certification is a concoction of the political-educational establishment to protect, shield, and justify inadequacies of public education. After all, the state education office only looks at transcripts and required courses to determine if certification standards have been met—it never actually watches a teacher teach.”

What Qualities a Teacher at Waterhouse

Our wonderful teachers have diverse talents, including a college degree and/or equivalent life experience in their area of expertise. Additionally, our teachers have hands-on training and are mentored in the very unique Guild method.

All teachers receive a background check before being hired.
