Introduction

The goal of Waterhouse Guild, at all times, is to protect and promote the complete health of students, parents, staff and visitors. This includes physical, emotional, intellectual, spiritual, and emotional health.

Communication

Overall guidelines and responsibilities for students, parents, and staff will be communicated by:

  • Hard copies given to parents and staff.
  • Email to parents and staff.
  • Posting on the school’s website, waterhouseguild.com.
  • Group teleconferencing as needed.
  • On-site posters and notices as appropriate at entrances and sinks.

Facility

  1. Consider using separate entrance and exit paths to avoid congestion at gate.
    Enter from parking area.
    Exit through garden area.
  2. Classrooms will be arranged as needed to maximize social distancing while taking into account educational needs.
  3. Hand sanitizing stations will be provided at each classroom entrance.
  4. Use of shared materials will be eliminated wherever possible.
  5. Common areas will be cleaned throughout the day as needed.
  6. In addition to our current daily cleaning procedures, a detailed cleaning list (TBD) will be followed at the end of each day.
  7. A visitor log will be kept at the door to track room use outside of Waterhouse hours.
  8. Cones will be provided at classroom entrances to define social distancing requirements in cases where a line forms.

 

Staff

  1. Staff members will be given an exposure questionnaire each morning before entering classrooms.
  2. Staff members will have temperature taken each morning before entering classrooms. If temperature exceeds health authority guidelines, they will be sent home and be required to get tested for Covid-19 before returning to class. If tested positive, staff member will be required to follow public health guidelines before returning.
  3. When feasible, masks will be worn.
  4. Staff will be required to use hand sanitizer when entering or leaving classrooms.

Parents

  1. Parents will follow all staff guidelines.
  2. Parents will be restricted from entering classrooms unless necessary.
  3. Parents will be restricted from congregating in classrooms or breezeway.

Students

Daily before entering class:

  1. Students will be given an exposure questionnaire (with a parent or guardian present).
  2. Student’s temperature will be taken with a non-contact thermometer.
  3. Reminders will be given throughout the day regarding distancing and hand washing.
  4. Waterhouse instruction currently takes place in small groups, this practice will continue.
  5. Inter-mixing of groups will be minimized.
  6. Outdoor activities will emphasize social distancing.

ZOOM Writing

Winter ZOOM Writing OFFERINGS

The following classes will be offered beginning the week of January 25.
Registration begins via email ([email protected]) on 1/5/2020. Please write “Registration: Zoom Writing” in the subject line and let us know which class you would like to enroll your child in and we will get back to you with details. Be sure to include a phone number where you can be reached. Once we receive your payment and completed registration form your space will be secured and we will send you links to the classes.

Monday

Paragraph Writing Lab
Paragraph Writing Lab: Write awesome paragraphs that surprise and delight your readers! Over the course of five weeks, learn to harness ideas into this quintessential unit of writing and have fun along the way. This 5-session class is appropriate for 4th and 5th graders and 6th grade reluctant writers. involves reading and writing outside of the class meeting.

$125 per student; 8:30-9:30; 1/25, 2/1. 2/8, 2/15, 2/22; grades 4-6

Thursday

Read to Write, Storymaker, Introduction to Poetry

Read to Write: Read to spark ideas. Over the course of five weeks, read and engage in lively discussion, keep a journal, and craft ideas into unique paragraphs. This class will culminate with a creative project inspired by the story. The first book we will explore is Pablo and Birdy by Alison McGhee and is perfect for 3rd and 4th graders, but also appropriate for 5th graders who are reluctant writers. This class involves reading and writing outside of the class meeting.

$125 per student plus curriculum; 8:30-9:30; 1/28, 2/4, 2/11, 2/18, 2/25; grades 3-5

Become a Storymaker: Story writing is an important part of learning and writing development. Through weekly creative writing activities, students will practice constructing ideas with words. They will learn to craft an exceptional “hook”, the sentence that gets the story started. Over the course of five weeks, students will craft stories, become fascinated by the way the words and ideas come together on paper, and have fun along the way. This class is perfect for 2nd and 3rd graders who are competent with sentence writing and involves a bit writing outside of the class.

$125 per student plus curriculum; 1:30-2:30; 1/28, 2/4, 2/11, 2/18, 2/25, Grades 2 and 3

Introduction to Poetry: Read and Write Poetry to empower the writing of prose. discover the craft of writing poems and the delight of reading poetry. Over the course of seven weeks you will be introduced to some of the basic techniques used by poets, explore excellent poetry, and practice writing original poems. This class is perfect for 5th through 9th grade students as an introduction to the art of poetry involves a bit writing outside of the class.
